Trying to decide how to use your money is always tough. Should you use your money to buy acar or go on a vacation? Both afford lasting pleasure, but of a very different kind. From avacation you get the pleasure of doing wonderful things and of totally relaxing and enjoyingyourself. The memories you bring home with you can give you that same pleasure again everytime you think of them.
A car also gives you pleasure, every time you drive it. There’s the pleasure of not having todepend on public transportation. You can go places off the beaten track, where publictransportation doesn’t go. There is also the pleasure of being independent. You are able togo anywhere your car can take you, without depending on others.
A vacation gives you the opportunity to learn new things and meet new and interestingpeople. However, it’s only for a short period of time. A car gives you the same opportunities ona smaller level, but on a more regular basis. With a car, you can go someplace new everyweekend. You can also join a car pool. That way you can share travel expenses with the newpeople you meet.
Some people might say that spending your money on a vacation instead of on a car is beingimpractical. But nothing is as satisfying as a really good vacation. It’s mentally and physicallyhealthy. It gives you a chance to get away from all that is familiar to you and see the world froma new perspective. It lets you do nothing but play, the way you did when you were a child.Being able to play, even for a short period of time, is absolutely necessary for everyone’smental health. There is no denying the fact that it has been a hotly debated topic in China whether people should have their own cars. People’s opinions differ sharply on this issue. Some hold the positive view. They say that the car provides the most convenient form of transportation. Besides, a car is a comfortable way to travel, especially in winter. Finally, a driver is usually safe in his car when he is out at night.
Others, however, hold the opposite view. They say that there are many disadvantages to owning a car. For one thing, it can be very expensive to purchase and run a car. For another, owning a car can also cause worry and stress. It is exhausting to drive a car in heavy traffic. What is worse, cars are responsible for most of the smog in cities, which pollutes the environment seriously.
In spite of all the above mentioned, I still favor owning a car. The reason is that the car gives a person the freedom to schedule his own time. Though we are confronted with a problem of energy crisis, I am sure that the real solution will have to be a new kind of car, one that uses cheap, efficient fuel and does not contaminate the air.

They say that the car is the result of modern science and technology and everyone is entitled to enjoy it. They also argue that the development of private cars will vigorously stimulate the development of other industries and the whole national economy.
Others, however, hold the negative view. They point out that the increasing number of cars have led to a series of problems. First, they result in air pollution, which seriously damage people’s health. Secondly, too many cars on the road easily lead to traffic jams, which actually slow down the pace of life and work.
Weighing the pros and cons of these arguments, I am inclined to agree with the latter point of view. The government should put a ban on the development of private cars and exert more efforts to develop public transportation, such as buses and subways. In this way, we can both enjoy efficiency and a clean environment.

Nowadays, we can often hear the discussion whether buying cars should be encouraged. Some people suggest that we should buy cars. But others claim that driving cars is not a wise idea. As far as I am concerned, I am in favor of the latter opinion.
To begin with, there are few parking lots, so the streets are made narrower by the cars parked along the roads. For example, my father could not find any places to park when we went to the supermarket.
Moreover, many drivers do not obey regulations, because people do not pay enough attention to the rule of traffic. For instance, I often see people cross the road when the traffic lights are still red.
Last but not least, the growth of new roads’ construction is usually slower than the increasing number of cars. For example, the length of the road has gone up by 20% in 2002. However, the number of cars increased by 50% in the meantime.
From what has been discussed above, we could draw a conclusion that encouraging buying cars is not fit for today.
