　　first of all, the disadvantages may include lack of privacy and little opportunity to be independent. they will lose the chance of living on their own. another drawback to living in an american home involves the possibility that the family may treat the student like a child. for eample, the parents may want to decide who his friends should be and where he should go during his leisure time.

　　even though there may be some disadvantages in living with an american family, the advantage far overweighs them. by taking part in a home-stay program, the student has an ecellent opportunity to learn about american customs. also, he will learn about many other aspects about american way of life, such as the way schools are run in the u nited states. and the family will no doubt make cerlain that he becomes acquainted with this new way of life, and soon he will feel at home.

Suburban American has shopping centers called malls and residents usually need a care to get around. Most of the houses in the suburbs are one or two stories tall, with private yards and gardens and garage. There are few tall buildings in the suburbs. Cities have neighborhoods, warehouse stores, and public transportation is usually pretty good. Private houses might only have a back yard, and if there is a garage it probably is small. Cities have a lot of apartment buildings and some tall buildings may seem to scrape the sky , so they are called skyscraper .

Many people say that this year they are especially thankful for their families and friends and the good things in their lives.

　　On Thanksgiving, people enjoy a long day of cooking, eating and talking. The traditional meal almost always includes the turkey with a bread mixture cooked inside. Other traditional Thanksgiving food served with turkey are sweet potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie. Stores are said to sell more food at Thanksgiving than at any other time of the year, and many people eat more food at Thanksgiving than at any other time of the year. Over the years, Americans have added new traditions to their Thanksgiving celebration. For example, a number off professional and university football games are played on Thanksgiving Day.
