On Water Shortage
No one can deny the fact that water shortage is a grave problem (嚴(yán)肅的問題) with which the whole world is confronted（面對(duì)）. Actually, it has become so widespread that it has severely affected people’s daily life and hindered（阻礙）the development of the global economy.
A number of factors could account for the problem, but the following might be the critical（關(guān)鍵性的）ones. Firstly，the ever-increasing （不斷增長(zhǎng)的） population is a leading cause of water shortage. As populations increase, the demand for water grows accordingly. secondly, people everywhere waste water without even realizing it(毫無意識(shí)的`): showers last too long， taps are left running and so forth. Last but not least, the industrial production will cause water contamination (水污染)and it will also decrease the existing water resources (現(xiàn)有的水資源)further more.
In view of the seriousness of the problem, effective measures must be taken before things get worse. For one thing, it is essential that laws and regulations be worked out and enforced（制定和執(zhí)行） impose a heavy penalty on those who waste or contaminate waster deliberately . Secondly, a large-scale education campaign should be launched to inform the public of the significance of economizing on （節(jié)約）water. With these measures taken, it is reasonable for us to believe that this problem can be perfectly solved in the near future.

It is conceivable that the excessive packaging has mainly arisen from the two following factors. For one thing, people in mounting numbers are inclined to send a variety of gifts to their relatives and friends, especially during the holidays, and decorated gifts sometimes are a symbol of good taste. For another, the dealers are in the purpose of making more money by packaging the products to the largest extent.
Taking all the above-mentioned factors into consideration, it is quite urgent for us to take effective measures to cope with it. We consumers should basically concentrate more on the quality of the commodities rather than the packages; meanwhile, the government should also put restrictions on the excessive packaging. Only in this way can we guarantee the harmonious development of the market as well as ourselves.
