我們在寫關鍵詞作文時應按下列步驟進行：
1.審題。相對于段首句作文來說，審題對于關鍵詞作文更為重要。由于關鍵詞作文是帶題目的，所以拿到作文后一定要認真審題，仔細琢磨題目的含義，弄清題目規定的內容及各段的主題，確定寫作題材。
2.仔細閱讀關鍵詞。關鍵詞作文一般來說要難于段首句作文。而對于所給的關鍵詞，考生往往感到茫然，不知如何動筆。遇到這種情況，要仔細閱讀關鍵詞，因為所給的關鍵詞通常是分段落的，并且按照一定的邏輯關系排列。它們不僅規定了思路，而且在一定程度上還提供了語言素材，考生可根據所給的關鍵詞進行聯想，勾畫出短文的輪廓。
3.草擬各段的主題句。明確了全文各段的主題，只是對如何寫好這篇文章有了初步的設想。要寫好文章，還有關鍵性的一步，這就是寫出各段的主題句。主題句是作者思維的起點、扣題的`準繩、闡述的對象。有了主題句，作者就可以圍繞主題句進行擴展，不會偏題。寫主題句時要注意以下幾個問題： 完整性。完整性是指主題句必須是一個意義完整、主謂成分俱全的句子。 清晰性。清晰性是指主題句的含義要清晰明了，使人容易分清，不要含糊其詞，使人感到模棱兩可。 具體性。具體性是指主題句要明確具體，內涵集中，所指單一，易于段落的擴展。 正確性。正確性是指主題句用詞要能確切地表達本段所寫的內容，語言要精煉、生動、清晰。
4.段落寫作。考生在用關鍵詞寫作文時，應盡量將所給的詞都用上，并力求把每個關鍵詞都用得準確、形象、恰到好處。寫作時，要特別注意句子的結構，句子與句子之間的銜接，以及段落與段落之間的轉折和連接。
