Usually moving in groups and caring for each other, Elephant is know to be a very and gentle creamre. 　　The snake is a long and thin animal that lives in grass or other dark places. 蛇是一種又長又瘦的動物，生活在草叢里和陰暗的地方、A snake has no legs or feet, but it can move very fast on its stomach.蛇沒有腿和腳，靠胃部飛快的移動前進。 Snakes usually have green, yellow or black skins, which make them difficult for their enemies to find them. 蛇常常有綠色，黃色和黑色的皮膚，使得敵人很難找到他們。Some kinds of snakes live in water. 　　Snakes are cold-blooded animals. In winter they hibernatein holes which are narrow enough only to hold the snakes' bodies. The snakes can sleep through a whole winter without eating and moving. They can not feel any pain. The hibernation period lasts about five months. When spring comes, the snakes come out and begin their normal life.

　　Snakes can take many things as food, such as mice, sparrows, frogs,birds' eggs, pests and so on. People sometimes can see a snake eat a sparrow. First it moves close to the sparrow, then it puts out its tongue and brings the sparrow into its mouth and swallows it, which makes a lump in the snake's body. After some time the lump disappears.

　　As snakes are dreadful-looking, people are afraid of them. Many people drive them away whenever they see snakes. But in Chinese fairy tales, snakes are by no means bad. 　　Animals Need Protecting

　　Animals are natural resources that people have wasted all through our history. Animals have been killed for their fur and feathers, for food, for sport, and simply because they were in the way. Thousands of kinds of animals have disappeared from the earth forever. Hundreds more are on the danger list today. About 170 kinds in the United States aloneare considered in danger.

　　Why should people care? Because we need animals, and because once they are gone, there will never be any more.Animals are more than just beautiful or interesting. They are more than just a source of food. Every animal has its place in the balance of nature. Destroying one kind of animal can create many problems. For example, when farmers killed large numbers of hawks, the farmers' stores of corn and grain were destroyed by rats and mice. Why? Because hawks eat rats and mice, with no hawks to keep down their numbers, the rats and mice multiplied quickly.

　　Luckily, some people are working to help save the animals. Some groups raise money to let people know about the problem. And they try to get the governments to pass laws protecting animals in danger. Quite a few countries have passed laws. These laws forbid the killing of any animal or planton the danger list. Slowly, the number of some animals in danger is growing.

　　Once there was a famous masician in our country. His name was Gongsun YI. He liked to play the lute very much. One day he saw a cow eating grass. He was very happy and began to play the lute to the cow. The music

　　was very pleasant, but the cow still ate grass without listening to it.

　　Gongsun Yi went away unhappily. He wondered why the cow didnot listen to the nice music. In fact the cow could not understand music. Gongsun Yi just played the music to the wrong audience.
