　　In our daily lives，we have many choices to make，such as what to eat for supper，what clothes to wear，or what to do on weekends. At certain times in our lives，we need to make even more critical choices，such as which school to attend，what job to take or who to choose as husband or wife. Yes，life is a mater of choice. Seemingly，it means a choice of tangible things. But in essence，it means choosing a way of life. Life is to be lived，saved，and enjoyed，not to be wasted or complained about. Hardly can we forget the time when our society faced the grave threat from the life-and-death disease-SARS. Yet，even during those dreadful times，some afflicted people remained optimistic. Instead of wearing neutral white masks，some people turned to colorful ones and thus display a happy mood. And some creative people dubbed SARS to mean“Smile And Remain Smiling .” I was deeply touched by their optimistic，nearly forgetting that we are still in a battle，people who survive these kinds of circumstances，decide in their minds to carry on in spite of the overwhelming odds. Laid-off workers typically regarded as the victims of economic advancement，are subject to desperation that being unemployed has brought on them. But encouragingly，we have witnessed some of them striving hard to rebuild confidence toward life and discover new opportunities for demonstrating their values.

　　Although we cannot choose our appearance，inborn gifts and even avoid unexpected disasters and adversities，we do have the privilege to choose to live optimistically，to love our lives，to have dreams，and to cherish hopes.

　　Every morning when we get up，we have a choice of how we want to approach life that day. As for me，I choose to be cheerful.

　　ladies and gentlemen, teachers, my fellow students: i am very excited and feel it's a great honor to stand here to deliver my speech. what i'm going to talk about is "choice in my life" i can still remember the first time i failed in a singing contest. i immediately ran to my grandma, shedding lots of tears of course! i cried loudly and could hardly utter a word! then, badly needed comforting words and touch came from grandma. i gradually regained my sense of pride and a sensible control of my feelings. yet, head down, i said: "grandma, i have no choice, and i have to give up, right?" "look at me, my dear!"she said gently. i looked up, straight into her eyes. what i saw was a shining, sweet, and loving stream from the bottom of her heart! then, there came the gentle voice of hers: "no, no, no…" her head shaking, while eyes smiling. "why don't you give more attention to the details?" she continued. no other words were needed any more! i started practicing and rehearsing once again, paying special attention to those little things that i used to ignore. as a consequence, my overall performance was quickly elevated to a new high! without much trouble, in another singing contest held months later, i won! what do i learn from this experience? never give up lightly! life's full of opportunities, and lots of them! to realize your dreams and fulfill your potential, you must learn to work hard and smart and steer your lifeboat wisely! as a li ling's sportswear commercial goes "everything is possible!" but not without sweat, devotion, and tears sometimes! life is a long journey, during which we are surely going to face many challenges, experience lots of failures, and equally, many opportunities are waving to us, while sweet rewards are waiting for us! to transform these opportunities into fruitful results, or turn those challenges and failures into valuable assets, we must learn to seize the good ones and not to retreat lightly in front of difficulties. winners can never be quitters! thank you all!

　　What life is about As we all know, the most important thing in life is our attitude towards it, tons of men have tried different ways of treating life, and some succeeded, some failed, and here are some of the tips they left us. Life isn't about keeping score. Life isn't about your shoes or your hair or the color of your skin. In fact it's not about if you have lots of friends or if you are alone, and it's not about how accepted or unaccepted you are. Life just isn't about that. But life is about whom you love and who you hurt. It's about how you feel about yourself. It's about trust, happiness and compassion. It's about sticking up for your friends and replacing inner hate with love. Life is about avoiding jealousy, overcoming ignorance and building confidence. It's about what you say and what you mean. It's about seeing people for who they are and not what they have. And we should always remember to be ourselves. Other might have things that we desire but being what we really are is the only trail leading to the true colors of life. Most of all, it's about choosing to use your life to touch someone else's in a way that could have never been achieved otherwise. The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers; we buy more but enjoy them less. We've learnt how to make a living but not a life, we've added years to life, but not life to years. And it is time for us to choose whether to make a difference in our life. And these choices are what life is about.

　　Life is never just being. It is a becoming, a relentless flow. Our parents live on through us, and we will live on through our children. The institutions we build endure, and we will endure through them. The beauty we fashion cannot be dimmed by death. Our flesh may perish, our hands will wither, but that which they create in beauty and goodness and truth lives on for all time to come. Don’t spend and waste your lives accumulating objects that will only turn to dust and ashes. Pursue not so much the material as the ideal, for ideals alone invest life with meaning and are of enduring worth. Add love to a house and you have a home. Add righteousness to a city and you have a community. Add truth to a pile of red bricks and you have a school. Add religion to the humblest of edifices and you have a sanctuary. Add justice, to the far-flung round of human endeavors and you have civilization. Put them all together, exalt them above their present imperfections, add to them the vision of humankind redeemed, forever free of need and strife and you have a future lighted with the radiant colors of hope.
