1. I am trying to draw an elephant. 我正試著畫一頭象。

try to do sth. 試圖做某事

e.g. He tried to climb the tree, but he could not. 他試圖爬樹，可爬不上去。

She tried to ski on the ice very carefully. 她很小心地試著滑冰。

I tried to find him, but he had already been away. 我想找到他，可是他早就離開了。

比較：try doing sth. 嘗試做某事（看能否可以）

e.g. Try working on the problem in another way and maybe you can succeed. 嘗試著用另一種方法解決這個問題，可能你會成功的。

Try knocking at the back to see if there is anybody at home. 試著敲一下后門，看看是否有人在家。

try (n.) 嘗試，試驗

e.g. If you can't open the box, can I have a try? 如果你打不開這個箱子，我能試一試嗎？

try on 試穿(衣服)

e.g. She tried on her new dress again and again in front of the mirror. 她在鏡子前一遍一遍試穿那條新裙子。

Try it on! Surely it will suit you. 試試看，它一定適合你！

2. It’s quite a nice elephant! 是一頭挺好看的大象。

quite (adv.) 相當，十分 （注意：與形容詞一起修飾可數名詞單數時，要放于不定冠詞a/an的前面）

e.g. He is quite a good actor. 他是一個相當好的演員。

This is quite a comfortable house. 這是所相當舒適的房子。

quite a few不少，相當多（修飾可數名詞）

e.g. Quite a few people attended the opening ceremony. 不少人參加了開幕式。

There are quite a few books on his shelf. 他的書架上有不少書。

注意：與quite拼寫相近的有：quiet安靜的，quit退出

3. What was Li Lei drawing when the teacher came in? 老師進來的時候李雷在畫什

么？

was/were+doing構成過去進行時，表示在過去某一時刻或某一時段正在進行的動作，常與過去某一特定時間的狀語連用，如at 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon, (at) this time last night, then等。

e.g. We were watching football games at this time yesterday afternoon. 昨天下午這個時候我們在看足球賽。

Tom was doing his homework when Jim knocked at the door. 吉姆敲門的時候湯姆正在做作業。

What were you doing then? 你那時在做什么？

4. How can you get on well with your neighbours? 你怎樣和鄰居和睦相處？

get on/along (well) with sb. 和某人（友好）相處

e.g. How are you getting on with your new classmates? 你和新同學相處如何？

She is not able to get along well with others, since she always thinks of herself. 她無法和大家友好相處，因為她總是想著自己。

5. A man lived in a tall building in the city of Moscow. 有個人住在莫斯科城的一幢

高樓里。

the city of Moscow中的介詞of表示同位關系，即Moscow city

e.g. She is from the city of Nanjing. 她來自南京市。

At last he settled down in the city of New York with his family. 他最終和家人在紐約定居了。

6. There was only one problem: the man upstairs. 只有一個問題：樓上的那個男人。

upstairs (adv.) 在樓上，往樓上；(adj.) 樓上的（反義詞為downstairs）

e.g. The bathroom is upstairs. 洗澡間在樓上。

He went upstairs to go to bed. 他上樓去睡覺。

Do you want to have a look at the upstairs bedroom? 你想看一下樓上的臥室嗎？

7. He always took off his boots and threw them on the floor. 他總是脫下鞋子把它們扔在地板上。

take off 脫掉 （反義詞為put on）

e.g. Take off your clothes; they're very wet. 脫掉你的衣服，衣服濕透了。

It was rather hot and he took off his hat. 很熱，他把帽子脫下來。

8. He found it very difficult to get to sleep and he was rather angry with the man upstairs. 他很難入睡，對樓上的那個人很生氣。

find /think/feel + it + adj./n. + to do sth. 此結構表示“發現/認為/感覺做某事怎樣”

e.g. I find it hard to finish the work on time. 我發現按時完成工作很難。

I think it necessary to tell him the time and place. 我覺得有必要告訴他時間和地點。

She felt it her duty to take care of her little brother. 她覺得照顧弟弟是她的責任。

be angry with sb. at/about sth. 因某事生某人的氣

e.g. She is very angry with the shop assistant. 那個營業員很讓她生氣。

I was angry at his words. 他說的話讓我生氣。

Don’t be angry with that guy. That’s the way he is. 別生那人的氣，他就是這樣的。

9. I am sorry to trouble you. 很抱歉打擾你。

trouble (vt.) (使)煩惱，打擾

e.g. Can I trouble you to shut the door? 我能麻煩你關上門嗎？

What is troubling you? 你為何事煩惱?

I am troubled with a cough. 我咳嗽得挺厲害。

10. …every time you get back at night, you drop your boots on the floor. 你每次夜里

回來都把靴子扔在地板上。

every time每次，每當（引導狀語從句，相當于whenever）

e.g. Every time he passed by the corner shop, he would go in and have a cup of coffee. 他每次經過拐角小店都要進去喝一杯咖啡。

Every time I ask her, she always gives me a satisfactory answer. 每次我問她，她總能給我一個滿意的回答。

11. The next evening the man upstairs came home from work late as usual. 第二天晚上，樓上的那個人又像往常一樣回來很遲。

as usual照常

e.g. --Are you coming home at the usual time? 你準備按往常的時間回家嗎？--Yes, I shall leave the office at the same time as usual.是的，我將和平常一樣準時離開辦公室。

He arrived late as usual. 他照常遲到。

As usual, I slept late that Saturday morning. 和平時一樣，那個星期六早晨我起得很遲。

12. He was just falling asleep when there was a loud knock at the door. 他剛要睡著就有人大聲敲門。

過去進行時+ when從句（過去時）的結構中，when不作“當…時候”，而表示and at this time。

e.g. I was reading the novel when the telephone rang. 我正看著小說，電話鈴響了。

He was having a rest in the armchair when it began to rain outside. 他正在扶手椅上休息，突然外面下起雨來。
