辨析statue，figure和image

statue指的是雕像，塑像

figure多指在繪畫或雕塑中的人形，或人影，身材

image指的是形象，指在別人心目中給人留下的形象

status指的是地位，職位

represent vt. 代表

representative n. 代表

include vt.

including prep. 包括

辨析include與contain二者均為包含，包括的意思，但include強調其中含有，并不說明全部內容，比如：The newly published books include two essays of his.

contain強調所包含的一切，比如：The newly published books contain 3 separate ones.

conclude vt. 結束，總結，下結論

conclusion n. 結束，結論

restore vt. 重新獲得，使恢復

（二）課文重難點

狀語從句，此句中there指表示存在，并不表示地點處所。

此句為主語從句it結構。

event此處指事件，

辨析event，affair，incident

event指大事件，國際事件或歷史上的事件

affair指有趣的小事、瑣事，尤其指風流韻事，

incident指文學作品中所描寫的事情

burn放火燒，set fire to sth.，set sth. on fire

burning hot，火燒般的熱；burning coal紅熱的煤炭

St. Petersburg was nearly in ruins: fires burned everywhere.

be in ruins一片廢墟，被摧毀

…and paintings and statues lay in pieces on the ground.

be in pieces粉碎，此處lie起到be動詞做系動詞

Restoring the city and its cultural relics seemed impossible.

restore sth.恢復，修復

此處everything后省略that的定語從句

Pieces of the palaces that had been hidden before the Nazis now could be used to rebuild the city and its culture.
