(tell常與情態(tài)動詞can，could或be able to連用，有“判斷”，“區(qū)別”和“猜測”的意思。

(2)sink是不規(guī)則動詞，它的過去式是sank，過去分詞是sunk或sunkeno

②vi．下沉，下陷，下降。例如：

在集體名詞police， audience cattle等前面一般都需要用定冠詞the，但在本課中，由于是選自報紙，受篇幅限制，有時省略一些像冠詞那樣的虛詞，意思不變。
注意：考試中一般不采取這種用法。
(2)step up speed up，increase走近；登上；加速．；逐步提高。例如：
I think it’s too difficult for the old man to step up so high a tower．
we decided to step up production to try to meet the increased demand．
(3) search
尋找；搜尋，搜查。例如：
The search for the missing boy has not been successful．對失蹤男孩的搜尋還未成功。
He walked through the desert in Search 0f the lost Camel．他走過沙漠尋找丟失的駱。

5.due to的用法 ．
①表示‘由于”相當于because 0f, caused by。例如：
The accident was due to careless driving．這次事故起于駛疏忽。
②表示“應付”，“應得到的”，“預期的”

show up 的用法
（1）露面，出現(xiàn)，到場，

8 (1)makeup的用法
①構成；占……比例，相當于form。例如：
Girls makc up 45％of the studcnt population in our school．女生占我們?nèi)W生的百分之四十五。
This country is made”up of many small islands．這個國家是由許多小島組成的。
②編寫；捏造，相當于invent a story，a poem or an excuse。例如：
The teachetr asked the childen to make up poem about Christmas。老師讓孩子們寫一首圣誕詩。
③彌補，補償，相當于replace something that has beenlost。例如：
Because of his illness，he had to make up the missed lessons．由于生病，他必須把落下的課補上。 ‘
We must make up for the lost time．我們一定要把失去的時間補回來。 ．
④和解，調(diào)停。相當于end a quarrel with someone and become friendly again。例如： ’
We haven’t been getting on well．Let’s make up．我們一直相處得不好。我們和好吧。
⑤化妝，．

(2)charge的用法
①n．負責；責任。例如：
Who is in charge of your class?誰負責你們班?
Who takes charge of your class?
This class is in／under my charge．這個班由我負責。
This is in the charge of Mr Smith．這個工程由史密斯先生負責。
*注意：in charge of表示“負責…‘掌管”(主動)；in the charge of sb ／in (under)one's charge表示“由……負責”，“由……掌管”(被動)。
②n.收費；價錢。例如： 、
You can visit the museum free of charge．你可以免費參觀那個博物館。
Every year he travels once at his own charge．每年他自費旅游一次。
③“．要價；控告；使承擔(責任、任務)

9.wonder ，可作動詞，也可以作名詞。
①vt。想知道，不知道。例如：

②vi感到奇怪，驚奇，相當于feel surprised。例如： ]
