[用法]as if 同as though 猶如;好像

[舉例]She treats him as if he were a stranger.

她待他如陌生人。(本句使用了虛擬語氣)

He behaved naturally as if nothing had happened to him.

他表現(xiàn)得很自然,好像什么事也沒發(fā)生一樣.

The owner talked all the while excitedly,as if to himself.

店主興奮地說個(gè)不停,像是自言自語.

4>Not all of them were safe.

not all

[用法]not和all,both或every連用,為部分否定

[舉例]Not all the answers are right.

Both of the books are not useful.

Every book is not worth reading.

[注意]全部否定可用如下形式:

None of the books is/are right.

Neither of the books is useful.

No one can read the book.

5>If only they could find a way to get to the room.

if only...

[用法]1.表示愿望,意為'要是...就好了'.句中常用虛擬語氣形式.用一般過去時(shí)表示對現(xiàn)在的愿望;

用過去完成時(shí)或could have done表示對過去的愿望;用過去將來時(shí)表示對將來的愿望.

2.引導(dǎo)條件狀語從句,意為'只要'

[舉例]If only you had worked with great care.

If only it clears up,we'll go.

6>He was just about to say sth when Peter turned around.

be about to do...when...

[用法]正要做..這時(shí)候(發(fā)生某事).when為并列連詞,相當(dāng)于and at that time

[舉例]I was about to go out when my cousin came to see me.

我正要出門,這時(shí)候我的堂弟來看我.

[聯(lián)想]when做此用法的句型還有:be doing...when... 正在做什么這時(shí)候...

had done...when...剛做完..這時(shí)候...

[比較]except 除了(傳統(tǒng)語法認(rèn)為,前后有相稱的同類語時(shí)用except,否則用except for.

但置于句首時(shí)一般用except for
