1. Fast reading to find out the general information in the text .

2. Question - and - answer activity to help the students to understand the detailed information in the text .

3. Pair work or group work to make every student work in class.

Teaching Procedures :

Step I . Greeting

Greet the whole class as usual .

Step II . Revision and lead - in

( Teacher asks some pairs to act out their made-up dialogues first , then begins his / her lead-in )

T : OK . That' s all for your homework . Open your books , please , Turn to Page 34 . First look at the picture at the top of the text . I ask you some simple questions . Now you may notice there are many people in the picture . " Where are these people ?"you can guess .

SA : Maybe they are in the CAAC building .

T : You are clever . Right . What do the men want to do ?

SB : They want to buy air tickets .

T : Right . Today we are going to read about a new computer . It is owned by the CAAC ., Which is China' s airplane company , The men are passengers . Do you know this word " passenger ? A passenger is a person who travels by plane or by bus or train .l Now I give you five minutes to read the passage quickly and silently . I'll ask you to answer the question at the top of the text . Now begin . ( After five minutes , teacher begins to check their general understanding to the text .)

T : Who can answer the question ? Li Yan, you try , please .

S : I think the best answer is 1. Because this is a major theme of the passage . 2. and 3 are supporting details .

T : You are right , Thank you , Sit down , please

Step III . Reading

T : Now you have understood the general idea of the text . In order to understand it further you must master the usages of some words , phrases and sentence patterns . Now first let's learn the new words . Please look at the new words and read after the tape .

( Show the new words on the screen and play the tape )

T : OK , As to the text , you should learn the usages of some phrases , Look at the screen .

1. keep a record of : 把 --- 記錄下來

e.g . You should keep a record of how much you spend .

2. thanks to 由于

e.g . I am well again , thanks to the doctor .Thanks to the bad weather , our journey was very uncomfortable .

3. at one time : 一度，曾經 e.g . At one time , he was famous for his poems .

Pay more attention to the following sentence patterns when you use them .

1. be used to do sth 被用于干某事

be used to doing sth . 習慣做某事

e.g. The wood is used to make desks .

He is used to getting up early in the morning .

2. not --- until ---直到 --- 才（主句用短暫性動詞）

--- till / until 直到 --- （主句用延續(xù)性動詞）

e.g. I didn' t leave my office until 12 o' clock last night .

We should wait till / until the teacher leaves .

3. although 雖然 --- 但是 --- （其后不再用but )

e.g. Although it is getting dark , we still work very hard .

( Bb : Phrases : keep a record , thanks to , spend --- on / ( in ) doing sth , at one time

Sentence patterns :

be used to do / doing sth , although--- not --- until --- )

T : Now let's read the text again . When you read the text carefully , you should consider how to answer some detailed questions ( Show the following questionnaire on the screen .)

1. Why can passengers buy their air tickets faster now at the CAAC offices ?

2. What's the computer used for by the CAAC?

3. Why were there long queues outside the offices of the CAAC in the past ?

4. In how many cities does the CAAC have offices both at home and abroad ?

5. What is the result of using the computer ?

( After three minutes . teacher says the following .)

T : Now you may discuss the answers with your partner , then I' ll ask some of you to answer the questions .

( Ss begin to discuss and teacher goes among the Ss to check their discussion , then checks the answers with the whole class.)
