Teaching Steps

Step 1:

1. Introduce the new words in unit 24 to the students. Students try to read to and check each other. If they can read them correctly, that's OK. Do not spend too much time.

2. Reading comprehension.

Let students read the dialogue silently and quickly, then finish the following exercise to see whether they've learned the information provided in the dialogue.

True or false exercise:

① Dick is helping his friend, Tim, with his farm work today.

② In the coming two days, the weather will be warm and dry.

③ Tim is satisfied with the weather for the next two days.

④ Dick is going to sow his can not seed tomorrow.

⑤ Dick and Tim are picking cabbages now.

3. Listening and speaking

①Play the tape of the dialogue 3 times for the students to listen and repeat. Let student imitate the pronunciation and intonation.

②Pair work.

Of the two students in a pair, one services as Dick and the other Tim.

③Performance

Invite two or three pairs to perform before the class.

④Free dialogue between teachers and students, using the sentence patterns in the dialogue.

The following conversation may possibly appear in the class.

Conversation 1:

T: Hello, Xiao Yan, What's the weather like today?

S: It's warm and dry.

T: Do you like this kind of weather?

S: Yes, but I hope it is wet now.

Conversation 2:

T: Excuse me, Xiao Ma, do you listen to the weather report on the radio?

S: No, but I watched TV last night and I know something about the weather.

T: I'm going to TaiYuan on business, I wonder whether it's going to rain.

S: On, no. It's going to be dry and sunny for the next two days.

T: Oh,that's good, Thank you.

Conversation 3:

T: Hello, Lingling, Have you seen FangFang?

S: Yes, she is helping my sister with her English now outside.

T: It's cloudy and windy now. We'd better invite them inside. Maybe it's going to rain.

S: I listened to the weather report on the radio and it's not going to rain, but the weather is really changing now.

T: So you'd better go and call themback.

S: OK.

4. Writing

Retell the dialogue, using your own words Model:

Dick and Tim are picking cabbages now.

Dick tells Tim that it's going to be dry and sunny for the next two days, so Tim deadens to sow his carrot seed tomorrow. Tim advises Dick to pick to pick the rest of these cabbages before the weekend because the weather is going to be wet and windy.

5. Finish Ex 1 on P94 on the workbook.

Step 2

1. This step mainly deals with Part 2 of lesson 93. Teachers may first make use of things around to have a talk with students, using the sentence pattern, "What is(are) made of (from)?

Teacher can prepare something before having classes. Anything will do so long it helps. Then organize students to read and practice part 2. Let students know the difference between "of" and "from"

2. Finish Ex 3 on the workbook.

Homework:

Some exercises have been finished in class, the rests are students' homework.

Teaching steps

Step 1:

Students go over the new words of this unit.

Step 2:

Reading comprehension

1. Let students read the title and the first sentence of each paragraph to get a clear idea of what the text is about.

2. Combine the first sentence of each paragraph to form a short passage.

This serves as a short written exercise.

3. Read the whole text again quickly and find the answers to Ex 1 on students' workbook.

4. Read the text again in order to have a more detailed under standing about Jia Sixie. Ask students finish the following table after reading.

Step 3

Language Study

1. Let students go over paragraph 3 and 4 and concerning about Indirect Speech. (5 sentences)

① Then he said that they should be hung up to dry.

② He pointed out that it was important to remove weeds before sowing seed in the soil.

③ He also said that it was important to plant wheat close together.

④ Other scientists had said that wheat should be planted with space between the plants.

⑤ However, Jia sixie did experiments and showed that his way was better.

2. Let students go over paragraph 2,3 and 5 to pick out all the attribu-tive clauses: (4 sentences)

Teaching steps:

Step 1: Let students go over the new words for the third time.

Step 2: Reading comprehension

Read the text and finish Ex1 on the students' workbook.

Step 3: Listening and speaking Play the tape of lesson 94 and lesson 95 for students to listen and repeat.

Step 4 Grammar

This step deals with part 2 - Practice Ask students to change the first sentence of each paragraph into indirect speech.

Answers:

1、 He advised farmers to do things at the right time of year.

2、 He told farmers to examine the soil on their farm carefully.

3、 He advised farmers to plough deeply the first time and less deeply the second time when they plough the soil.

4、 He told farmers not to plant the same crop year after year in the same field.

5、 He advised farmers to grow different plants next to each other in the same fied.

6、 Finish Ex 2 Model A on the workbook.

Step 5 Grammar.

When doing this exercise, students should be taught to pay attention to the forms of questions. Teachers should lead students to group the questions into two kinds:

1. Sentences 1、2、5、7

For these sentences, "if" should be used to introduce the clause.

2. Sentences 3、4、6、8

For these sentences, students can use the original interrogative pronouns or adverts to introduce the clause.

3. Pay attention to the order in each clause. It should be word declarative, not interrogative.

4. Finish Ex 2 Model B on the workbook.

Lesson 96

Teaching steps:

Step 1:

① Finish Part 1 of Lesson 96 alone.

② Two students form a pail to examine each other's answer.

③ Oral practice: Students ask and answer, using Part I.

④ Students write a shout passage in two groups Introduce yourself if you are Jia Sixie. Using the information giver in part 1.
