Teaching Steps

Step 1:

1. Introduce the new words in unit 24 to the students. Students try to read to and check each other. If they can read them correctly, that's OK. Do not spend too much time.

2. Reading comprehension.

Let students read the dialogue silently and quickly, then finish the following exercise to see whether they've learned the information provided in the dialogue.

True or false exercise:

① Dick is helping his friend, Tim, with his farm work today.

② In the coming two days, the weather will be warm and dry.

③ Tim is satisfied with the weather for the next two days.

④ Dick is going to sow his can not seed tomorrow.

⑤ Dick and Tim are picking cabbages now.

3. Listening and speaking

①Play the tape of the dialogue 3 times for the students to listen and repeat. Let student imitate the pronunciation and intonation.

②Pair work.

Of the two students in a pair, one services as Dick and the other Tim.

③Performance

Invite two or three pairs to perform before the class.

④Free dialogue between teachers and students, using the sentence patterns in the dialogue.

The following conversation may possibly appear in the class.

Conversation 1:

4. Writing

Retell the dialogue, using your own words Model:

Dick and Tim are picking cabbages now.

Dick tells Tim that it's going to be dry and sunny for the next two days, so Tim deadens to sow his carrot seed tomorrow. Tim advises Dick to pick to pick the rest of these cabbages before the weekend because the weather is going to be wet and windy.

5. Finish Ex 1 on P94 on the workbook.

Step 2

1. This step mainly deals with Part 2 of lesson 93. Teachers may first make use of things around to have a talk with students, using the sentence pattern, "What is(are) made of (from)?

Teacher can prepare something before having classes. Anything will do so long it helps. Then organize students to read and practice part 2. Let students know the difference between "of" and "from"

3. Read the whole text again quickly and find the answers to Ex 1 on students' workbook.

4. Read the text again in order to have a more detailed under standing about Jia Sixie. Ask students finish the following table after reading.

Step 4 Grammar

This step deals with part 2 - Practice Ask students to change the first sentence of each paragraph into indirect speech.

When doing this exercise, students should be taught to pay attention to the forms of questions. Teachers should lead students to group the questions into two kinds:

1. Sentences 1、2、5、7

For these sentences, "if" should be used to introduce the clause.

2. Sentences 3、4、6、8

For these sentences, students can use the original interrogative pronouns or adverts to introduce the clause.

3. Pay attention to the order in each clause. It should be word declarative, not interrogative.

4. Finish Ex 2 Model B on the workbook.

Lesson 96

Teaching steps:

Step 1:

① Finish Part 1 of Lesson 96 alone.

② Two students form a pail to examine each other's answer.

③ Oral practice: Students ask and answer, using Part I.

④ Students write a shout passage in two groups Introduce yourself if you are Jia Sixie. Using the information giver in part 1.

Suggested answer:
