be like=look like=be similar to像，看起來像。

如：He is like his father. 他像他的父親。

= He looks like his father = He is similar to his father.

like作介詞意思為“像”，like 還可做動詞用表示“喜歡”，like（doing）sth. 喜歡做某事。

2.How big are manatees? 海牛有多大？

how big... 詢問體重。以how組合的疑問詞組有很多，如：

how old 問 how often問 how long問動作持續

how 問質量或者價錢 問距離 how many問數量

how soon問

3….they weigh about 1,000 pounds, ……他們大約重1000磅。

weigh 稱……重量，測……重量。

4.現在完成時中延續性動詞和終止性動詞 如:become, begin, buy, borrow, arrive, die, finish, get to know, go, join, marry, start, stop等。它的現在完成時不能和表示延續的時間狀語連用,即不能與表示一段時間的狀語, for+時間段, since+時間點/從句連用,也不能用在how long引導的特殊疑問句。

常見終止性動詞與延續性動詞 (或狀態動詞) 的對應關系如下:

come / go / arrive / get / reach / move--- be in/at

open --- be open die --- be dead lose --- be closed become ---be borrow --- keep put on --- wear buy --- have leave-be awayfinish - be over begin/start - -be on

against 介詞, 反對, 違反, 與……相反(=opposite against 介詞還有觸, 碰, 倚, 靠的意思。如：Put the piano there, with its back, against the wall. 把鋼琴放在那里,背靠著墻。

Be against doing sth.反對做某事, 反義詞組是 be for doing sth,贊成某事

2. I’ve visited a lot of zoos in my life, and I have never seen one I liked or one that was suitable for animals to live in.

(1) be suitable for sb to do sth. 表示 “適合某人做某事”,這里suitable 是suit的形容詞形式,表示 “合適的”。

（2) to live in 在此處作animals的后置定語。英語中動詞不定式短語做名詞定語,放在后面。

3. The animals are kept in tiny cages. 動物被關在極小的籠子里。

tiny=little 很小的, 帶有感情色彩. 區別, the tiny country 國家小 (含可愛的意思)

tiny和little常做定語,一般不做表語, small 既可以做定語,也可以做表語。

little 還可表示 “一點點的”, 修飾不可數名詞。

4. I was surprised to find hardly anyone there

surprised 在這里是過去分詞做形容詞。

我非常驚訝地發現在那幾乎沒有人。

常用詞組: be surprised at sth. 對某事感到驚訝

be surprised to do sth.很驚訝地做某事 in surprise 驚奇地

To one’s surprise 使某人驚奇地 surprise =amaze 使……驚訝

5. provide sb. with sth.

provide sth for sb. 提供給某人某物

6.They urged us to go with them.他們慫恿我們一起去。

詞組: urge sth., on/upon sb.極力推薦urge sb. on sth. 鼓勵某人做某事
