二、詞義辨析
except, except for, except that與besides
except將一個或幾個人或物從同一類或普通的種類中除外；其后可接名詞、代詞、副詞、介詞短語、不定式（短語）或wh泊泳洹
besides意為“除……之外（尚有……）”，except是它的反義詞；except表示“減云”，而besides表示“加上”。
except for說明整個基本情況后，對細節加以糾正；其后一般接名詞。
except that用來表示理由或細節，修正前面所說的情況，其后須接從句，可以與except for互換。
①All came except Jane.除了珍妮外，大家都來了。（“Jane”和“all”是同一概念范疇內的詞，都是指“人”，用except,不用except for）
②They all went there besides Tom.除湯姆（去了）以外，他們也都去了。
③He is a good man except for hot temper.他是個好人，只是脾氣暴躁而已。（temper和man不是同一概念范疇的詞，temper只是man的一個側面，因此用except for,而不用except）
